Shown in the photo is my 18 month old Weimaraner, Roxie, Mike Mullineaux, her handler at the 2008 Weimaraner Mid America Classic in Roff, Oklahoma, and myself. Roxy won the stake with a fine run, two finds, stop to flush, and was the only broke dog in the field of fifteen starters…She finished her Derby year ranked second in AKC wins nationally by the Weimaraner Club of America, just a couple points shy of first..... most of her placements came in all breed stakes running against GSP's, Vizslas, Brittanies, and even a few pointers and setters
I give a lot of the credit for her big run and style to the work done by Tom Perry, the professional trainer at Gun Dog Development who had her for several months last summer.... Tom's yard and barrel work in addition to daily conditioning with their English Pointers and Setters really got her started.... the barrel work got her head and tail high and the conditioning not only got her in shape, taught her to run edges and go to the front, but most importantly began to build up a competitive drive to out run her bracemates.... even though they had long tails!
I was really impressed with the patience and calm demeanor Tom has when working with his dogs... never loses his temper and seems to really make a connection with them... combine his skills with the super training facilities and an immaculately kept kennel and you really have a winning combination..."
